It seems fitting, for the first entry of my blog, that I look back to the first fantasy/romance/adventure all-around girls' thrill read that expanded my universe beyond dead classic authors, wonderful as they can be. And that would be Diana Gabaldon's Outlander, which literally kept me up at night, even when I wasn't reading it, because it was so damn exciting. Like my mind would churn on it, and I'd have dreams about it where I'd fill stuff in and continue scenes, being SO tormented as to the welfare of the Jamie and Claire. I actually had to stop reading it at times, because I literally couldn't sleep after reading it. I know it's controversial, what with the gay rape, the wife beating that seems suspiciously written to be titillating and so much more, but Och, I was in such heated suspense all the way through, the thing took over my mind. My big gateway drug. It was sweet! Be in my first batch of commenters--I will be so excited! What was your gateway drug?

Thanks for coming over and visiting my site!! I answered your questions over there...Now, about Outlander - this is on my TBR pile and hope to get to it soon. I have heard so many people talk about this book - and after what you said about it has me intrigued.
I guess the first time that I realized there were other genres, girls' thrill reads was earlier this year (Feb/Mar) when I stumbled onto the Ellora's Cave site...I had never read vampire romance/time travel/shape shifter stories before...Opened up a whole new world to me and I have taken off, grabbing everything I can.
Got to love Outlander!

mkay, so i was riffling (sp?) through your old blog entries looking for posts about Keri Arthur (omg, girl, I DEVOURED those books that you sent, kthxbye), and I came across this! *sigh* Jamie and Claire. I felt the same way when I read Outlander. I could barely keep reading for fear of what would happen next, but could not stop myself because I HAD to keep spending time with them. Officially, this was a major major gateway drug from me when it comes to romance. heh.
Now I wonder if you will see this comment...all the way back on your first blog entry. You've come a long way, baby!

When I was reading Outlander, I had this friend who'd read it before, me, and I emailed her like, tell me they're alright! And she wouldn't. She was just like, well, don't forget, This is Jamie and Clare's story.
LOVE the outlander!!!!! do you know how many husbands and boyfriends hated me for turning their women onto this book/series. they'd call me pissed off saying-"she hasn't cleaned or cooked since she started that damn book-and who's Jamie?" hahah!
