Man chest with heroine...or shirt with big freakin' gun?

Just in case you're not on my facebook (which you can like here if you're a FB liking type!)  I am gathering opinions on Off the Edge covers...because you know how I feel compelled to change covers all the time. It is a mania!

Anyway, I got it in my head today that poor Macmillan needs a shirt. And one thing led to another...

So, man chest with heroine or shirt with big freakin' gun?

PS: This book should be out in December. I can't wait!

She-wolf: Thanks!
Traveling Gal: I love that we're in a genre that man chest is traditional. Ye ol' man chest!

I am on the fence. I like the one with the shirt. But it doesn't say romance at a glance.

I also like Shirt-Dude because, as you know, I have read a version of the book, and I think that cover is more Max-like.

Dude with the chest says romance. But I don't like it as well.

Have you arranged your two choices as thumbnails in a sea of thumbnails of completing novels? Which one makes you take notice?

I think it depends on the story focus because the covers promise slightly different things. That said, just based on the covers alone, I like the one with the gun.

If there's a way to insert the redhead behind gun guy without having her head shot off that would work. Maybe with her hand on his chest.

The general romance reader will know right away the book is a romance in cover #1.

Cover #2, my favorite, matches Max. Some rom fans are ready to move on from chesty men. There's been a bit of a shift toward innocuous book covers ( i.e. romance serials), which Gun Guy is not.

I guess you could conduct a survey at the mall. lol Cover #1 seems the safest bet for romance cover.

Hilcia, Twimom & Bookaholic cat: Thanks!! :)

Carolyn: That's my fear, that it doesn't say romance, but I do like gun guy!!!

Susie: I wonder what you are thinking they promise. Maybe romance on the first, but I'm curious what gun guy promises to you!!

Anna: Right, the romance one feels safer. And, you have a very high estimation of my photoshop skills with the redhead. That said, it's not a terrible idea. Get the shirt guy AND something that says romance. Maybe if this one turns out to be a no-fly cover.

Gumby found his way on the Head Rush cover. I'm sure a woman's hand, silhouette, or shadow of some kind can be work itself in. I have faith! ;o)~
