My husband and I got a good laugh out of this Windflower seduction scene: handsome Duke/Pirate Devon brings Merry to a lovely, out-of-the-way and hay-filled barn to see some kittens.
They play and cuddle with the kittens upon the soft hay, and then the kittens and the mother cat run off, and a hot and steamy scene ensues.
Obviously, implausibilities help to make books fun to read - otherwise, they'd be like life. But the idea of people successfully having sex in a barn full of kittens is one of the most farfetched things ever. I should know, as two kittens live here in this apartment.
To kittens, people having sex is an irresistible feast of play opportunities. Excitement in the air! Moving body parts to pounce on! Clothed is okay, naked is better, but if the people are under the covers? Go, kitty, go kitty, kill kill kill!
I know Devon spent years with fierce pirate Rand Morgan, but he doesn't know what ruthless is until he tries to have sex with Merry in front of kitties. The kitties will take him DOWN.
I've never really minded animals watching, if you know what I mean, if they don't try to get involved. We've had older cats that just sleep and lounge nearby. I'm fine with that. Hmmm. Maybe this is a poll.
Update: see poll at left.

I can so relate to that! LOLOL
Poll! Poll!
These kittens are adorable!
LMAO! I agree. Only well trained cats (ie: those that have been thrown across the room once or twice) know better.
LOL!!!
Oh, how I wish the kittens HAD attacked Devon
omg it's so true lol! I don't have cats myself but when Hubby and I were house/kitty sitting for my sister and her husband the kitty's just couldn't stay away from us!
Another check in the "pro" column for dogs. Our hound has never been the slightest bit interested in spectator sports. Thank goodness. If he were, I confess I'd be a bit unnerved.
When it's time for some luvin', our cat gets a shuvin'.
OK, that was bad, but yes, the cat must go if the bedroom suddenly becomes a place for something other than sleeping. It's too weird with trying to get all lurvy durvy and then there's this seven pound purring machine looking on.
I think the scene you describe in the book may have been funny w/kittens in true pounce mode. Run awat during secks? Cats? Pffftttt.
LOL yeah that is why the kitties at my house are not allowed in the bedroom.
I was going to ask if those were your kittens ... then I read the last sentence. ;-)
LOL, I still remember a story with my friend, her husband and one of their puppies. Kittens aren't the only animals that won't stay away.
lol...I have no idea about it, I dont have cats and am very allergic to them :)

Yeah. Well. Ehem.
It is hard to resist bed mice. At least that's what Stella tells me when I roll over and she pounces upon my feet. Or butt. Or whatever.
haha, so true. Although, I have to say that my dog is more likely to jump into the fray than my kitty. I think we may have scared off the poor girl.
No kittens were harmed in the making of this...
Have you read Flowers from the Storm?
Great kitten and kissing scene.
I think I almost spit out my water reading this. Hahaha. I always wondered ya know. I agree with Christine, a poll sounds great. ;)
My babyfluff used to love to jump up on the bed at the most inopportune times. I used to tell him "three's a crowd," but he didn't mind. :p
Some implausabilities add to the story, but the kitten factor is not among them. Besides, it seems like gay male friend bonding rather than a leadup to foreplay!
I had to watch my sister's 2 kittens for 2 weeks in August. They sucked the life out of me!!
Oh yeah, now I remember that scene! Always love a good barn sexin scene in a book.
