There has been such drama out at the bird feeder, I can’t even tell you. But look! A bird is there! Birds come to it now, and it is so wonderful. This photo was snapped last night. It is not a good photo, but I didn't want to get too close and scare my new little pal away.
Astute readers will notice that this bird feeder is very different from the stupid cage-like one I had before.
Yes, stupid. People pointed out that it looked like a cage, and really, it made me a bit uncomfortable, but I was advised to get a squirrel-proof feeder, because if squirrels adopt the bird feeder as their feeding station, birds will never come to it.
Then the unthinkable happened. A little brown bird got trapped in there! He got right out, but it FREAKED me out.
Then this little red headed bird came by (just like the one at the square feeder, above), and this little guy couldn’t even figure out how to get IN to the bird feeder after many attempts. (Please don't think this reflects at all on you, KB.) But I thought, if this red headed bird ever does figure out how to get in, he will NEVER get out. So I climbed out there and just took the damn thing down.
So I didn’t have a feeder for a couple weeks, in case you were wondering about my radio silence on the matter. But then this week then I got this glorious one. What I also like about it is that it doesn’t discriminate against bigger birds. A giant crow could come to this feeder if it wanted. I sort of like crows.
This is a totally boring blog entry. Like, am I 92 years old? I’m going to stop now.

So what will you do with the thunderdome?
Excellent new feeder CJ.Careful with the crows, though. My kitty almost caught one this morning. It was eating the chicken scratch (which is bird food, really) and my little skinny kitty had that crow for a split second. Scary moment for them both.
I love the feeder updates.
You can be nicknamed, The Bird Lady now :)
Love the new feeder. Keep the thunderdome for those S&M bird types.
Showtunes. I haz it.
Though her words are simple and few
Listen, listen, she's calling to you
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag"
OK. I'm going away now.
Lisa has been hitting the bottle this morning or watching some Mary P.
I had a huge crush on Dick Van Dyke in that movie.
Oh no! kitty drama! Well, I am going to return thunderdome to Target.
What are you guys talking about with the show tune? I think I missed the movie.
From the Disney movie Mary Poppins. The scene is where Mary talks about the old woman who feeds the birds tuppins, tuppins!! :)
CJ. You missed Mary Poppins? Julie Andrews singing about the vagrant who feeds the wee birdies? No?
Actually, if I didn't have kids who were OBSESSED with that movie (and the dreaded Chitti Chitti Bang Bang....which sounds like rough sexorin), I wouldn't have remembered.
I didn't miss Mary Poppins, but I sort of only remember Dick VD. Chim chiminy...
Chitty chitty bang bang was sort of formative though. And I was wondering recently, did they have that scene where there's this queen that hates children? And she makes them work in these sort of catacombs?
Chim Chim Cherri, Chim Chim Cherrio...
Now that sounds like a sexin song also.
See,the bird seed is priced at a mere Tuppence per bag. It's a marketing strategy. What to do? Invest frugally, prudently, fruitfully at the Dawes, Tomes,Mousely, Grubbs
Fidelity Fiduciary Bank? Or feed the birds.
Wow. I've seen this movie a billion times. And had breakfast with Mary Poppins.
I'm going to go write. :)
Chitti Chitti is twisted weird. Really.
Huh. I have nothing important to add to this, except that maybe we should talk about the weirdness that was H.R. Pufnstuf. Wow. I loved that show when I was a kid.
And I didn't even end up being a druggie.
Allegedly. ;o)
Lisabea, I always thwarted my mother in her efforts to try to get me to love Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang. Damn that movie is LONG! I hated it.
MaryKate. When I posted about the,uh, tree sex book, I searched the World Wide Web for a good picture of the HR Puff-n-stuff trees. They were so creepy! Nadda. But video of "Mechanical Boy?" Jack Wild? Takes you back. Too far.
Can you believe they put that show on the air?
LB, what ARE you talking about? I think this is more of mary poppins.
KB: We know what you're obsessed with this morning.
MK & LB: I was in awe of HR puffinstuf. I barely understood it, and I felt it was for teenagers, and I vaguely sensed something subversive, but it scared me, frankly, and I rarely watched it.
MK, You are younger than me. How is it you were hip to HRP when I, the older child, wasn't?
So nobody has answered my question. Is that scene where the queen hates children in chitty?
Yes. Hates children. Rounds them up in a wagon and cages them. At least she doesn't bake them into a pie...
And HR was a bit old for me as well. My sister watched it as I drank my Tang and ate my fruitloops.
MK, You are younger than me. How is it you were hip to HRP when I, the older child, wasn't?
SIGH. I just *SO* hip. No, really, I have siblings who are 12, 9, and 6 years older than me. And a mother who, you know, had four kids. It was too exhausting to monitor us all the time.
I also have eclectic taste in music because my sibs all listened to music that was much older than me.
LB: Right, I totally remember that, and I couldn't remember what movie it was from! Those 70's movies were so cracked. Don't even get me started on Willy Wonka, which to me is at the root of my hypochondriac tendencies to this day.
MK: Older siblings make a kid SO hip. I was the oldest kid, and the biggest dork on the planet.
Has anyone seen Bednobs and Broomsticks? I love that movie! The flying bed was da bomb :)
LB you met Julie Andrews?!
Katie(babs)~No we did that breakfast at Cinderella's castle a few years ago. Photo ops with all your fav. Disney characters. GREAT breakfast and my son was totally 8 year old crushing on Mary Poppins.
Was fun.
There is a picture of me at nine yrs in Frontier Land having dinner with Chip N Dale. No princess pictures though :(
I had the choice of going to RWA or Orland and Disney this summer. No Mickey for me this time around.
Katie Loved me some bedknobs and broomsticks. I would wish my bed could fly like that.
Hated Mary Poppins and all of you that had siblings totally rock
As the only child I was always the weirdo dork that walked around school with my head in the clouds and my own hipness...
Dude. I was at Disney World last November. They have an entire "Princess Beauty Salon" there where you can send your little girl to get her "princessified." Ewww.
I'm just saying, if a bottle of Coke at Disney is $7, how freakin' much do you think going to the Princess salon is??
Some people have more money than sense. When I played dress up when I was little I did it in one of my mom's old silky nightgowns and one of her old pairs of high heels.
I just got some photos of my little niece with Aladdin, I think it was. Talk about a lot of slap on a man! He looked like he was in the princess beauty salon.
MK: Yeah, that would be WEIRD. It shoudl be called the child homogenization salon.
KB and LB: I would love to see those photos of you. We should have a photos of us as kids day one of these days.
S: oh, poor only child! I bet you got a lot of reading done. Maybe that's where your wanton bookaholic ways came from!
see I think squirrels getting past squirrel proofing on my neighbor's feeders (we don't have any) is worth the show. Granted the little boogers chew up feeders and chase off the pretty, pretty birds, but they're so RESOURCEFUL.
a fellow old lady
Okay, you ladies are cracking me up with the whole Mary Poppins song.
This is a totally boring blog entry. Like, am I 92 years old? I’m going to stop now. I just want to mention that my grandfather (80) has a squirrel zapper to keep the squirrels away from his bird feeder. I just had to laugh at this post!
Kate: yes, there is something to be said for those clever squirrels!
Jill D: A squirrel zapper! LoL! Yikes, I bet that works.
Yeah that and my imagination. My parents always worried about the imaginary friends that still exist. but I tell them now they are just characters that have been waiting for their stories.
As far as books that was the only thing I could do besides sports. We lived in an old neighborhood with NO CHILDREN. No wonder I ended up so weird?
You are officially a Bird Lady, congrats!
And I'm glad you took the "honorable" way and didn't follow my "Steal the neighbor's" plan. I'm slightly disappointed.
nice new bird feeder!
http://thebookworm07.blogspot.com/
better to be known as a bird lady than a cat lady. Cat ladies have Bad Reps, poor things.
Hey! there's nothing wrong with being a cat lady!
I heard from one of my classmates that cat feces is known to cause psychosis (or something like that) so that could explain a lot. *grins*
Oh, boy, I better put up a new post, because I don't want to be a bird lady or a cat lady. I used to be a sort of cat lady - we had FOUR cats. It was insane. Now we have none. I'm sure that will change soon.
I never heard that about cat feces and insanity. Hopefully that's only if a person eats it, but then maybe they were insane before.
I am actually watching the birds a lot this morning, and it is slightly distracting to my writing process!
Bird feeders are awesome. In our neighborhood, people just toss dinner rolls on the boulevard and think they're doing a great philanthropic thing. I wind up wrestling with Big Al the greyhound.
K,
What a nice surprise! And poor Al, I'm sure he is very disgruntled by your pulling him away, because don't you know they put those rolls there for him?
Eating cat feces...yes. Time for a new post.
What book are you reading. Right now?
LB, I was JUST thinking about you. Magic Bites. I'm going to post on it tonight if I finish my work.
Magic Bites. Why is that ringing a bell? JEEZE all I read is dudes(And they are so good). How are you? What work. You aren't still dealing with Magnus are you?
The heroine in Ilona Andrews series ala Magic Bites is named Kate. :D
What an awesome name for a character and wouldn't it be great if her sexin lover was named Michael...
You are up on things, KB. I don't know if there is any Micheal in this yet or just a lot of monster fights. Michael is into monster fights, you know.
I like monster fights! I think of the old time movies with Godzilla and Mothra.
LB you dirty mouth you! Behave ;)
Woot! I'm so happy to have been deleted by the administrator. It's never happened to me before! How exciting. So funny CJ. I'm just glad I wasn't removed for mean girl blogger nasties.
You have been very bad. Very bad. KB and Mothra will get you. I am meeboing.
Wow. You deleted the crap out of me.
I know. Are you mad? I hope you're not mad. I actually think it adds something to have all these deleted posts, though. People will wonder. You will become notorious!
I will make you a star!
A star? Well. As long as I don't have to take off my clothes or anything...
No, I'm not mad. I have the emails.
