The ultimate evil gets-stuck-in-your-head song CONTEST

I’m looking for the name and artist name of a certain song.

It’s a special song that has the nightmarish power to become stuck in your head, sometimes for days, driving you crazy! It’s that song where, when the first notes come on the radio, you have been known to knock over people and furniture in your quest to change the station ASAP, or destroy the radio trying.

This song has caused you to leave bars and restaurants, furiously humming a competing song. OMG, you hate this song. What is it?

Win a $25 gift certificate!
A certain project, I won’t bore you with the complicated details, requires me to come up with a song that is one of the worst offenders in this way. For me, it’s the Pina Colada song (Do you like Pina Coladas...), as well as one by the Violent Femmes and one by Semisonic, neither of which I will name because even their titles can start up an infinite lyric loop in my head. However, all three of those are a bit obscure. I’m looking for something that is more well known, more universally hated for how it gets into ones head. And it’s worth a $25 gift certificate to the bookseller of your choice that's not Amazon.

Here’s how the contest goes: name your song in the comments. Go ahead and name multiple hated and feared songs. You have until 6 pm CDT Thursday May 29. At that time, I’ll pick the top worst offenders and create a poll and people can vote. The person who first suggested the ultimate gets-stuck-in-your-head song gets the prize!

So, my bloggy friends, what is your most hated, gets-stuck-in-your-head song ever?

There's this song called "I got it from my mama" by Will.I.Am. that whenever comes up on tv I'm tore between changing the channel because ohmigod, it's so annoying but at the same time it makes me want to get up and dance.

And believe me, it will get stuck in your head! All day long. It's happened to me a ridiculous number of times.

OMG, I have a ton of these:

Hey-Ya by OutKast
Love Will Keep Us Together by Captain and Teneille
Mambo #5 by Lou Bega (bastard!)
Glamorous by Fergie

That's my starting list. I'm quite sure I'll come up with more.

Actually you won't be entered because I kind of like that I'm Too Sexy for my Shirt song!

You can write your Nate haiku here.

"My humps! my lovely lady humps" Haha, I remember that song!

And I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt is a great song!

"Summer Loving" from the Grease soundtrack. Made worse because many people know all the lyrics, so it can go through your head in its entirety!

and also, particularly insidious and evil:

"Holiday Road" from National Lampoon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nLiQBV6A7c

Carolyn Crane said...

Oh, Angela, that is brilliant. Summer Lovin has those two phases - Summer Lovin and then Tell me more that play evilly back and forth. Good one.

Carolyn Crane said...

Holiday road is equally terrible. I just went there.

Tracy said...

LB - My kids love that song too and play it over, and over, and over again...maybe that's why it's stuck in my head!

Turning Japanese - the Vapours!

Carolyn Crane said...

Tracy, that is a definite finalist! That one really gets me.

Lone Chatelaine said...

Mitzi Gaynor - We Need a Little Christmas.

It's the only song that can make me kill someone at Christmas time.

The video is absolutely insanity inducing.

Marianne Arkins said...

"Feliz Navidad" by anyone. It circles, and circles, and circles in my brain.

Now, just from typing it... it's stuck. GAH!!!

Carolyn Crane said...

Two insidious Christmas songs! We are going to have a lot of tough contenders for the poll!!!

I'm going out of town until Sunday.

**blog withdrawal**

Wish me luck!

Don't worry be happy by Bobby McFerrin. Do dodo dodo dododododododooooooo dododododododooooo dododododoooooooo

Do you hear the whistling? :)

Okay I just saw I wasn't the only one hearing that song. I used to irritate my coworkers with that song. Lately I've been hearing the music for super mario brothers.

I'm learning that I'm defective and old as each year passes.

sula said...

That Kylie Minogue song...the one that goes "nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah nahhhhh" You know it, right? lol. "Can't get you out of my head, boy your love is all I think about" (repeat)

Ace of Base "I saw the sign"

"I'm a barbie girl, in a barbie worrrrld, life is plastic, it's fantastic!"

Shannon C. said...

OK, here are mine.

"Tom's Diner" by Suzanne Vega - I don't even know any of the words, but the tune is catchy.
"Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani - Especially the part that goes "The shit is bananas! B a n a n a s!"
"Seasons in the Sun" by whoever that is - It's the sappiest damn song ever and I hate it, and I am thoroughly glad that my little sister's cassette tape with that song on it broke. That tape also contained such gems as "I am Woman, Hear Me Roar", "Billy, Don't be a Hero", and "Sylvia". I don't know what people were smoking back in the early 70's, but it produced some truly awful music that has been immortalized on greatest hits of the 70's collections.

"Smooth" by Santana - I don't dislike the song exactly, but I heard it every fifteen minutes when it came out.

There are probably more, but those are my picks.

You Light Up My Life by Debby Boone
"There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza" as sung by Goofy, for chrissakes (my son has a Disney CD, and that one kills me every time!)

Anonymous said...

WHAM! Wake me up before you go-go
Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don't want to miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
'Cause I'm not plannin' on going solo

Then there is the whole jitterbug bit, AHHHHHHH!

Anonymous said...

Actually, there is just one more...

Boom boom boom boom
I want you in my room
Let's spend the night together
From now until forever

The VENGABOYS. Makes me just shudder.

lisabea said...

Hey how bout a song you can never get enough of..you know the one where you CRANK the radio and practically drive off the road dancing in your drivers seat while your children look on with horror, gripping the dash board and saying "Mom! You're embarrassing me!":

It's Raining Men!

Bridget Locke said...

This is the Song That Does Not End. Hate that song.

I've got Bootylicious by Destiny's Child stuck in my head.

And here's a question for you...why is it just one tiny little part of a song that gets stuck? It wouldn't be so bad if it was the whole thing, but when it's just a tiny piece of chorus or whatever. Argh!

Let me think. I'm sure I'll come up with more.

I just thought of another one. This one cracks me up though even though it's so annoying. Long story short, I dated a guy named Dominick and his family would always blast this song during the Christmas season on repeat..over and over and over again just to annoy him. It still cracks me up thinking about it..and that song of course is...

Dominick the Donkey!

I come back to town and what do I see???
There are a few new-to-me songs here.
Sula: Kylie Minogue: I don’t know it, but now I know to avoid it!
Shannon, OMG, seasons in the sun is pure EVIL. it gets stuck in my head, and brings out the hypochondriac in me. You have a lot of good ones!
Renee: you light up my life: Good one. ug. Currently running in MY head.
Sarah: that Wham! Song is dangerous. Excellent!
Bridget: I don’t know Bootylicious. Or the answer to your question! It’s sort of a mystery, and is it something a songwriter hopes to achieve?
Racael: Harsh! MC Hammer esp! and that Britany! Dogs out! Yikes!

Carolyn Crane said...

I have so many good ones to put on my poll now, you guys. This is great!

That friggin' 500 Miles song by The Proclaimers.

I totally agree-- Blister on the Sun is one that if I hear it I know I'm screwed for days to come.

Carolyn Crane said...

Mandy, you have just destroyed my mind!!! There is actually another VF song that kills me, too. Please don't guess it. 500 Miles is an excellent contender, though.

Tracy: Come on Eileen is one of them!

Tumperkin: These are probably terrible...if you have small children.

LB, That Nirvana tune doesn't do the evil repeat for me. WHat is hot hot hot?
