Desert Island Hero Draft: Round 1 of 7

Okay, island dwellers. We have our books. But what heroes will we bring? Not everybody can personally bring Dain. Or Roarke. Or Z! But somebody needs to! Below: A list of the women who brought their six books to the now massive DIK library last week (did I miss anybody?) and their round 1 hero picks. See rules below.

1. Tracy - Zsadist (Lover Awakened, JR Ward)

2. Thea - Jamie Fraser (Outlander, Diana Gabaldon)

3. Sula - Rhage (Lover Eternal, JR Ward)

4. Shannon - Sam Donovan (Mr. Perfect, Linda Howard)

5. Sarai - Jake Riordan (Adrien English series, Josh Lanyon)

6. Samantha Kane - Doyle/The Queen's Darkness (Laurell K. Hamilton, Merry Gentry Series)

7. Naida  - Edward Cullen (Twilight, Stephanie Meyers)

8. MaryKate - ROARKE (JD Robb's In Death series)

9. Lisabea - Adrien English (Adrien English series, Josh Lanyon)

10. KristieJ - Derek (Dreaming of You, Lisa Kleypas)

11. Katie(babs) - Alexander (The Bronze Horseman, Paullina Simons)

12. JenB - Vane Kattalakis (Night Play, Sherrilyn Kenyon)

13. Ciaralira - Ethan McCabe  sob (Demon Night, Meljean Brook)

14. Christine - Acheron (Dark Hunter series, Sherrilyn Kenyon)

15. Carolyn Jean - Eric Northman (Sookie series, Charlaine Harris)

16. Sarah - Clay (Women of the Otherworld series, Kelley Armstrong)

17. LesleyW - John Matthew aka Tehrror (Dark Lover etc., JR Ward)

18. Tumperkin - Mick Tremore (The Proposition, Judith Ivory)

19. Ana - Bowen MacRieve (Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night, Kresley Cole)

20.  Bridget Locke - Mr. Jules Cassidy (All Through the Night, Suzanne Brockmann)

Step 1. Find your name. That is the order you choose in.
Step 2. When it's your turn, “Call” ONE hero in the comments. (Anybody from all of literature, but you can’t have somebody who is already picked!

Who will you pick? Tracy gets to start. Tracy, leave your hero’s name in the comments. Then Thea gets to go. And so on. After this round, everybody will have one hero, and draft round 2 will start (at Sarai's). At the end of 7 drafts, everybody will have a group of 7 heroes to bring. Yes, trades are permitted.

Don't worry about obsessively monitoring this thing. If you don't call your hero in 24 hours, we'll skip you.

RULES:
• No picking out of order. Once the woman above you has chosen, it’s your turn. (Not before!)
• Trades are permitted, but be clear about announcing the results in the comments or email so your host doesn’t have to play sleuth.
• If it’s your turn and we don’t hear from you for 24 hours, sorry, you’re skipped. But you can email your host ahead of time with your pick.
• Latecomers: SORRY,  we wish everybody could play, but there has now been a moratorium placed on add-ons, due to the record-keeping nightmare this will soon become.

ROUND 2: (now over) Hosted at Sarai’s
ROUND 3: (now over) Hosted at lisabea's.
ROUND 4: (starting MONDAY!) Hosted at MaryKate's
ROUND 5: Hosted at Christine's
ROUND 6: Hosted at Katie(babs) & Kristie(J)'s
ROUND 7: Hosted at Sula's!

WHat's my prize? I don't need a pony anymore

sula said...

your prize? Um, hmm. A life? LOL! noooo, I'm just kidding. Get back to writing, young lady! I expect another chapter of fuzznuckin' before the day is over. *cracks whip*

Carolyn Crane said...

OMG, the comments have rolled over to a new page.
LB, what do you think about my choice? Nobody is jealous. But you are, right?

I will have that book tonight.

Sarai said...

Speaking of getting back to work *cough*
So I think Katie is going to pick Nate next LB so watch out for her sneakiness!

Sarai said...

CJ I'm mad at your choice but thought I should remain quiet seeing how your in charge of the flippin list. However, when its my turn it's on like... well whatever rhymes with on.

The hero you'll pick rhymes with on?

Lucky for me, Ethan lives in Seattle. Mmmmm.
"What's that Ethan?"
"I'll lay it out straight now, Ciara: You need me as much as I need you, and that'll never change, and I ain't ever ridding myself of you. And if you ever rid yourself of me, I'll just follow you around, groaning real loud."
"Oh Ethan! You say the nicest things." :)

Carolyn Crane said...

Is it Daun from Helles Belles?

Carolyn Crane said...

OMG! NOOOOOO! You are so EviL!

Sarai said...

Well actually what I meant was when the list is mine I will be all about bashing on you for taking Eric b/c sad but true he was my number 2 (Seriously I'm with the rhymes today) Whoops I really need more sleep at night and less playing during the day ;0)

lisabea said...

CJ! I knew you were getting eric or I'd have pissed myself.

As it is that opportunity may still present it self.

Carolyn Crane said...

Sarai: **sobbing, recovering from the Ethan thing...***
I will be picking before you in the next round, because the list will be reversed, and can be no longer changed, and the hero I pick would get along SO well with your Jake, because they have a lot in common. And YOU can't have him.

Samantha Kane said...

Okay, whoa, whoa, hold on a minute there. Did I see someone mention The Windflower? This could get ugly if ANYONE touches the Windflower. Just sayin'.

Is it my turn again? Somebody is going to have to give me a heads up.

I don't think anyone is going to pick my top honeys. You'll never guess them. Hahahahahahaha. Oh, wait. I just told you one. Shit.

lisabea said...

cj.what do they have in common?

I want my turn. Now. Has anyone anywhere gotten anything done in 2 days?

Ciara said...

I rewrote two scenes yesterday. ;)
I haven't blogged in a while though. Does blogging count as getting things done?
And I read the first two stories in Hot Spell (I got it to read the MJB short on Collin's family). Emma Holly is hawt. The second one, by Lora Leigh, is, um, messy. (dripping puss-ey and all that lovely imagery. I think the heroine might need to see a doctor.)
To write, or to read? That is the eternal question... There aren't enough hours in the day.

Kati said...

Okay, whoa, whoa, hold on a minute there. Did I see someone mention The Windflower? This could get ugly if ANYONE touches the Windflower. Just sayin'.

Samantha, they were mentioning The Windflower in relation to me (it's my all time favorite romance). But I love it much more because of Merry than Devon, so you go right ahead on and pick him. If I were gonna pick a guy from The Windflower, it would be Rand Morgan, who is my favorite secondary character of all time.

Tracy said...

Are we going 7 rounds? If so...I'll be happy to host.

Carolyn Crane said...

Thanks, Tracy, but if it goes 7 rounds I just realized Sula would have dibs on the hosting. Round 8?

Ana said...

I hope I get to choose tonight - it's almost 8 here - I am scared you guys will have to wait until tomorrow!

Sarai said...

Wait you mean someone will actually get along with my Jake? Who in the world could that be???
LB I haven't gotten shit done in a week!

Ana said...

CJ, You know, I am JUST reading Dead Until Dark and Sookie just met Eric - now that you chose him am I right in assuming that he becomes an important character? *hyper*

No wait, don't tell me.

Shannon said...

Damn kids keep arriving at my door, class period after class period. Don't they know I have important matters to attend to? Namely, figuring out my 7 guys! I still only have a vague idea of guys for the next round or two. That might be ok, though, in case someone steals one of my heros. If I don't have it all mapped out I can go with the flow more. Right? RIGHT?

Repeat ad nauseum: I won't go all crazy if my next man is taken!

::Looks at you all evily::

Tracy said...

No worries - round 7 goes to Sula.

Carolyn Crane said...

Shannon: How pesky of them!! LOL

Ana, I won't give anything away, but I sort of want to.

I may flip Lesley to the end of the English contingent.
Since this is just the first round, it's still fair because later names go earliest next round.

Shannon said...

omg, i can't believe I have to wait so long before I can choose again. This is killing me. I want my badass Alpha hero now!

Carolyn Crane said...

Okay, if Lesley doesn't check in before 9 your time I'm putting her behind you and T.

Carolyn Crane said...

Actually, maybe I better not do that.

lisabea said...

Aren't we DONE YET????

K. Breathing.

Whose idea was this???

LesleyW said...

Oh, Oh,

It's my turn.

I choose John Matthew from the BDB - aka Tehrror.

LesleyW

Carolyn Crane said...

Oh! Hey, whew! An excellent choice, Lesley!

LesleyW said...

Does he count? He hasn't had a book of his own, but he's been my favourite since DL. If he doesn't count I do have another choice ready to go.

Carolyn Crane said...

No, you can pick ANY hero. This is our damn island and we do what we please.

LesleyW said...

LOL - okey dokey then.

lisabea said...

Awesome choice. I LURVES him...and Z is already there to offer that strong guidance thing that's just so smokin...oh...must...have....z.....

Carolyn Crane said...

Tumperkin endowed me with the very important and secret information that she picks... Mick Tremore from Judith Ivory's The Proposition!!

Ana! You are up!!

lisabea said...

Yay! T is for TASH

Ana said...

Yay!!!!!!
Finally.

*poker face* *needs to play this right*

So after much consideration and strategizing - you know, if I pick my number one man now, the one that is very likely NOT to be choosen by anyone do I miss on the opportunity of getting my number 2who IS likely to be picked? But then again, don't I want to make sure that I get my number one choice? Plus, since the second round starts pretty soon with me as number 3 (yay) then it's likely that I get to get my second choice right? But then what happens to my number 3? shouldn't I choose him now?

In other words - I should probably get a life. *g*

Anyways, I choose: Bowen MacRieve from Kresley Cole's Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night! yay! Bowen is mine muwhahahahah. I get my own werewolf who has a lot of *ahem* stamina, he can hunt and cook and find me baths and kill all the creepy crawlies and take care of me (in more than one way)! Plus he is SCOTTISH. Enough said.

Carolyn Crane said...

Very Nice pick, Ana! Was that your number 1 or 2? Yes, there are strategic advantages to being where you are. Whew. Glad you got to pick before bedtime.

Ana said...

Do you think I get to pick my second one before I got to bed?I still have like, 3 hours?

That was my number 1!!!! :)

Carolyn Crane said...

Ana,
I doubt it. Sarai has to set this thing up on her blog. And we haven't heard from Ally for a while. You will have to live in suspense. I know I am on pins and needles as to whether I get my #2.

KT Grant said...

*keeps fingers crossed no one takes my number 2*
Gives the evil eye

Tracy said...

Oh this just sucks! In a wonderful way of course. :) I have to wait sooooo long to choose again all the men are flying off the shelves! Oh well, patience is a virtue right? I've been meaning to be more virtuous!

Bowen - fabulous choice!!

The Bookworm said...

lol katie, thanks for the rum, sorry your first choice was picked.

theres some hot heroes on this island.

http://thebookworm07.blogspot.com/

Kati said...

CJ - When we set this up on our blogs, should we show the previous lists? It's gonna get unweildy pretty quick. What's the best way to do this?

lisabea said...

poor cj.

Carolyn Crane said...

Unwieldy? What do you mean?

I think we'd need to carry over the list, reverse it obviously, and add on names. Because at some point, people are going to have to be checking who has been picked. But if you have a better suggestion, I'm open.

I thought of archiving rounds, but I could see people making trades, possibly even 2 heroes for one, that would alter previous lists.

Kati said...

Should we set up a separate blog that's just got one post that could be edited by those of us hosting a round? One permanent post that is editable?

I don't have any genius suggestions, I'm just thinking it's gonna get big, fast.

Carolyn Crane said...

Like, tack on more hero names next to the island girls' names. So at the end, we would each have 7 names.

Carolyn Crane said...

Oh! MaryKate, that is an interesting idea

Carolyn Crane said...

That might be a good safety valve plan. This wasn't that hard, really.

We could just let Sarai see how it goes adding on a name, and have that as a fall back if hosts are feeling like it's a lot.

The post would be long, but it's just an evolving list. It might be simpler than having different blogs going.

Joanna Chambers said...

Thanks for adding mine CJ!

Yes - Mick Tremore! He of the tash and the wee ferret. I'm flying the flag for historicals with Kristie J and Thea.

lisabea said...

My flag has a rhainbow!

OK I can't wait to host cuz I've got IDEAS

KT Grant said...

LB will have pictures of nekkid mens overun on the beaches with their dangly bits hanging out.

Kati said...

Works for me. ;o)

Shannon said...

heh. heh heh heh. dangly bits :)

Yeah, it might just be easiest to put each blogger's picks next to their name:

Shannon: Sam Donovan, hot stud muffin #2, gorgeous mancandy #3...

Easier to read that way, too.

JenB said...

Holy crap...I've been checking this damn page for two hours wondering why it's been so quiet...and then I find out there's A SECOND EFFING PAGE! Shit. Oh, and I would have volunteered to host a round, but I don't have a blog...just a lowly yahoo group. :(

Carolyn Crane said...

JenB, that is hiilarious. I was sort of bewildered by the second page thing, too.

Shannon, sounds like my #2 and #3 picks!

KT Grant said...

I have no nicknames for my lovers because my mouth will be busy in other ways.

lisabea said...

::checking watch::

Ana said...

That's it for me tonight, girls. Guess I will pick my number 2 tomorrow!Have a good night everyone!

Carolyn Crane said...

Goodnight, Miss Ana

lisabea said...

Ana, you could always do it by proxy with Cj. .....cuz then...you know...we could play into the night....and I could swallow some advil for this headache...and get a life.

Joanna Chambers said...

I'm off to bed too. (It's late here! And I've got to finish Not Quite a Lady!)

Where do I need to go tomorrow?

I'm confused.

sula said...

o hai. is this still going on? heh. this must be a new record for number of blog comments. i have never seen a page two. neato!

i have to go dream up the rest of my list. with heros that will inspire envy in the hearts of women (and men) everywhere. mwahahaha! ;)

Carolyn Crane said...

Bridget!!! You're up! We don't think Ally is playing!

Ally, if you are out there and want to play, we'll give you make up picks later.

Samantha Kane said...

MaryKate ~ Actually I was planning on choosing a secondary character. CJ, can we do that?

Um, about the hosting thing . . . I'm not on that list, am I? My blog is not my own, and I honestly don't have the time to do it justice I'm afraid. I'm trying to meet a deadline. If I was on the hostess list, would someone like to volunteer to take my place?

Tracy said...

Samantha it doesn't look like you're on the list to host so you're safe.

Bridget Locke said...

Oh & I believe I was the one who put in a bid before someone (who took #4) got it. But I'm not bitter. LOL! And of course, I've chosen brilliantly (i.e. obscure) so I highly doubt 99% of my guys will be chosen. *rubbing hands together*

Oh & by the by...why so many gay mens? I mean, I love them, but what'll they do for us? I'm just sayin'. :D

Bridget Locke said...

Argh! Sorry, got distracted by all the comments & didn't see it was my turn. *eye roll* And I'm stuck between both of these guys so it's going to be eenie-meenie here....*thinking*

My first choice for today is...drumroll please...Mr. Jules Cassidy from All Through The Night by Suzanne Brockmann!

Yes, another gay man, but Mr. Cassidy is very resourceful. I have faith he'd be the one to save us from this island. :)

Shannon said...

But, Bridget, who is your choice? It is your turn, I believe!

Shannon said...

OOOOOH! I loves me some Jules! He is fabulous. Good choice!

Bridget Locke said...

I'm on a commenting jag at the moment...I'm at work so I can only do it a little at a time. If it's feasible that this will go on for awhile, I'm putting my hat in to host. I did that way back at the beginning of the comments, but I think I got overlooked. *sniffle* Anywho...just sayin'. :D

Shannon said...

eeee! Round 1 is complete!!! Have we figured out how round 2 is going to work? I know sarai is supposed to host. Other than that, did anyone settle on an idea of how to list previous hero choices without it getting too... bulky?

Bridget Locke said...

Hmm...Shannon brings up a great point. Maybe on the sidebar? But that could get REALLY long! And will someone let me know when to choose? I'm #1 now & I want to make my choice ASAP. Don't want it getting taken or anything. :D

Kristie (J) said...

Well - I say do the list with the person, their first choice then blank for the next choice until they choose then have all three on the same line. I think it would be doable.

Carolyn Crane said...

Hey! I'm back!

Bridget, fabulous choice! I'm putting it up there!!

Carolyn Crane said...

Oh, also, we had a discussion about the next round of hosting - that we'd just keep going adding hero names next to the island girls, so that each girl will end up with 6 or 7 names (unless she trades like 5 heroes for one, let's say, Roarke). However there was some discussion of alternatives if that doesn't work (see past comments)

Bridget, sorry I didn't mean to overlook you on hosting! It's just there had been this preliminary email discussion of this hero picking process and the idea of revolving hostesses, and I didn't want to leave any founding participants of this mayhem out.

That said, one of the founders could not want to host. Or it could lumber on. I know I haven't stopped having fun or feeling the suspense.

Carolyn Crane said...

Oh, also, Sarai hosts next. She may have something up now, or tomorrow.

Tracy said...

CarolynJean you've done a fine job of hosting, my friend. 2 thumbs up!

Ana said...

So, I see round one is completed! Excellento.

CJ, you have been a most awesome hostess. Thanks for having us.
