A golden rogue’s caress…

The Windflower has landed!
Ah, the legendary 1984 romance, favorite book of superfabulous author Joanna Bourne and superfabulous blogger MaryKate and all kinds of other exciting people is now in my hot little hands!

Like so many of my readerly pals, I've always wanted to read this seminal book, but it's been out of print for years.

Recently, clever Ciara happened upon it at a UBS and snapped it up. Then she and Ana at Book Smugglers hatched a plan to share the love and send the book on a worldwide 24-blogger reading tour! I can't wait to read it and see what all the fuss is about!

The Windflower was written by a husband wife team, Tom and Sharon Curtis (AKA Laura London.)

Coincidentally, my husband also got a book written by a husband and wife team on the very same day Windflower came in the mail for me - The Age of Voltaire by Will and Ariel Durant. And his book deals with the same general period in history, too.

I got no end of teasing, but I don't care.

Okay, here is the blurb:

She longed for a pirate’s kisses, for a golden rogue’s caress… Every lady of breeding knows: no one has a good time on a pirate ship. No one, that is, but the pirates.

Yet there she was, Marry Wilding- kidnapped in error, taken from a ship bound from New York to England, spirited away in a barrel and swept aboard the infamous Black Joke…. There she was, trembling with pleasure in the arms of her achingly handsome, sensationally sensual, golden-haired captor - Devon.

From the storm-tossed Atlantic to the languid waters of the Gulf Stream, from a smuggler’s den to a guilded mansion, Merry struggled to escape… to escape the prison of her own reckless passions, the bondage of sweet, bold desire….

Read all about the tour here.
Read Ana's thumbs-down review here.
MAP will be updated soon!

Lol. Sounds like a lot of fun! I have a "kidnapped by pirates" book I need to read somewhere.... I think it's by Brenda Joyce (whom I love)

Oh, CJ, I hope you enjoy it. I really, really do!

LOL I love the pictures and talk bubbles! You're so creative. I can't wait to hear what you think!

Poor MK. She's so nervous. LOL

LT: I think it will be fun.

MK: After Ana's pan? I might be an easier read, though. And this is my FIRST pirate book.

Christine: Thanks. To be honest, it was not a good use of my time, but you know how blogging stuff goes!

YAY!! The used book store, where I found it for $1.50, just threw away their entire romance section. It "didn't sell." I told the clerk that perhaps it would have if it had been alphabetized, though if they knew the jewel they had we wouldn't now be enjoying it. :) I love buying local, but I HATE SNOBBY BOOKSTORES.

I also hope you like it!

I've never read this one, so I'll be interested to see what you think CJ. It isn't only used bookstores that shun romance novels. I was in a pretty big store the other night and they had the romance section in this little corner on only one row of shelves. No new releases, barely any hardbacks. Even the mysteries had multiple rows.

Ciara: I know, they can be SO snobby. Our gain.

Liza: What is the deal? Isn't romance 50% of the book sales? And I think it's a site of enormous creativity and action these days compared to other genres.

God, I really am. LOL!

I know I'm not the only one who loved it, but I'll be so bummed if all of you guys end up hating it. It'll mean I'm just too old school for words, I guess. And I used up ALL my smarts the first go round with Ana! I don't think I can ping around blogland making coherent arguments with everyone. :wrings hands:

Naida: It sort of reminds me of 'The Sting' movie poster

KJ: It's fun seeing what everybody's been talking about!

MK: I'm going into this book with luv. But beware, I am a slow reader.

This is totally off topic, but there's no where else to post :) You sold to Bantam?? Did I miss a post about this?? Just saw the blurb on the side...details woman, like now! That's so cool ;) (Mega congrats!)

Carolyn Crane said...

Ana: Uh oh!! I'm sure that won't happen. There are 24 readers!

Katie: Hey, thanks! I know, is it lame I haven't given details? I have these big ideas to make a website. Oh, so much to do!

Katie Reus said...

*cough* Yes it is lame, lol! This is totally deserving of a post of its own. I LOVE hearing about first sales so I hope to see it up soon....and I can't wait to read your blurbs :)
