My non-earth-shattering change of heart on reading many books at a time
I realized today that I was in the middle of reading FIVE books. I used to be a one-book-at-a-time reader and sort of looked down upon the practice of reading many. I felt switching of ruined the flow of the book. But I've completely changed my mind. When did that happen? LOL.
I now think reading multiple books is like being a connoisseur, and you switch off depending on your state of mind. One of the books I find inspiring for my WIP, one is emotionally comforting, one is fun and bright, etc. It is like pairing wines with specific meals. What do you think? Do you switch around or start and finish?

I always read more than one! I am a "moody" book reader so I don't want to dislike a book just because I was in the mood for something light and fun and it was dark and intense. Though I wasn't always like that and not sure when it happened :)
Damn, just realized that I told QQwill 3 books but I am reading 4 right now. (Mind Games was the one I forgot to mention over there.) I suppose it is five if you count the Rules Compendiums I am committing to memory. ;)
Since getting a Nook (actually my first eARC) I have been a multiple book person. Also a memory that grabs small trivial points from things and holds onto them helps me to differentiate them when I am reading more than a single book at a time.
I switch out, read one book for a while, then I feel the need to something new.... I used to never do that, I think it has something to do with the addiction to read, LOL! Right now, I'm reading four books, but one I've just cracked the binding to see if I like it, I do, lol!

Felicia: Me too. And, do you ever hear of it going the other way? A person goes from multiple reader to one-book-at-a-time?
Z Joe: Rules Compendiums! Yow. Actually, that's a good point, I think it does require a good memory to read many. Often I'll back up and reread a few pages.
Dottie: The addiction! So, no connoisseurship? LOL
Kudos to you for being able to read more than one book at the same time. I switch off between a couple series but I have to finish one book before I move on. Mad skills you got there.

Great post. I read more than one book at a time. For the same reasons you do. And I want a vlog of you doing five pull ups. Who-ha!
Steph: Well, as an author, I'd prefer readers do what you do - even though I don't! So...lol.
Mario: Err...might need an extension on the pullups thing. I might have backslid!
I prefer reading one book at a time, but there have been times where I've had multiple open. Usually it's just as Felicia said, I'm reading one novel, but I'm in the mood for something else. Or which happens more often, one of my fave authors has a book out and I'll drop what I'm reading to pick their new one up.
I try to read one at a time. Sometimes if a book is very emotionally charged for me, I have to take breaks while reading it and read shorter, fluffier books.
Thanks for the shout out! As for reading multiple books at once, I've got three going at all times: a print book, an ebook, and an audiobook :)
I've usually got a couple of books on the go. One will be my reading on the train book, and the other will be the book I read at night before I go to sleep. Generally they will be completely different genres to help avoid my brain getting them mixed up. Every now and again there will be more, but if I get to more than 5 or 6 I begin to feel a bit overwhelmed.
