Seattle report

We just loved Seattle. Before we left, everybody was like, Why are you going there? It’s rainy. But it was sunny and lovely, and even the bit it rained was beautiful to us, coming from the freezerbox weather of Minneapolis.

M is really itching to move to a larger city not in the Midwest for a variety of reasons, and Seattle is now very high on the list. M has friends there, though we’ve never visited before now. We had a lot of fun just bumming around in the neighborhoods, and I met a bunch of great people. And did a TON of reading, which I will talk about later.

Various fashion observations

The first night we were there we walked past a coffee shop stuffed with grunge slackers in black listening to open mic poetry. It was so picture perfect, it was almost like something Disney might put together, because that is so the cliché - grunge kids in a coffee shop.

And our hotel had a whirlpool but we didn't bring our suits, so we had to get some. M was able to just get used old shorts, but a girl can’t go in shorts or underwear. The ONLY suit I could find that wasn't $50 was a totally skimpy punk rock army green bikini with a giant skull scrawled on the breast, and another on the butt. M thought it was grand.

Also, while American Apparel stores are all over, including here in Minneapolis, Seattle was the only place I have ever seen women and men actually wearing full American Apparel ensembles involving things like turquoise blue leggings.

Hey MK!

I read Lust Bites, Demon Moon, part of Marjorie Liu's Eye of Heaven, part of Kushiel's Avatar. All great. I'm dauted by a backlog of things to say, so I said none of them. How was your week? Oh, I'm going to check your blog now.

CJ~ Glad you're back but also thrilled you got away and had a great time. And I SO want that bathing suit. If for no other reason than to horrify my children.

Gman loves the pacific northwest. I'm just hoping I can check it out with him on one of his excursions.

:)

Demon Night? Charlie Girl?

Welcome back! Sounds like you had a blast. Hubby and I have been debating about moving that way with family up there and all but alas we have planted our feet in Kansas and can't seem to move. Glad you had fun!

uh.

character.

Carolyn Crane said...

Sarai: It's easier to move a couple than a family! But yeah, such a nice area.

LB: Frankly, that Ethan is one of the better heroes I have ever read. Wow. And didn't you love a great picture on the front like that? There was so much I loved about him, and some of the shit he said during the sex scenes! Oh sheees! I was thinking of posting a photo of me in that suit, but I'm not quite there yet.

LOL on the bathing suit!! Sounds very unusual that's for sure!

lisabea said...

What no Talbots? heh. Connecticut people are so unimaginative. But our zippers are 9 inches long and our pants are tapered.

Not mine of course.

Carolyn Crane said...

TP: Yeah, American Apparel is everything that is NOT beefy. It is the ultimate anti-beefy store. You are wise to stay away.

KristieJ: Yes, the suit was insane. But it fit right, so now I have a decision to make.

LB, you would be RIGHT in style if your pants were tapered. That is so back! Especially in pastels. And if you were a guy in Seattle. Unless you have a zipper in the side of your pants. That is not back. Or maybe it is. I hear Chris Cornell loves a girl with zippers in the sides of her pants.

OMG. I didn't realize that American Apparel was channeling Donna Summer and what was the seventh grade for me. blech.

I'm still a gap girl.

I know, it's kind of crazy. But I'm sure some young 'uns somewhere are thinking that we are SO uncool for saying it looks dumb.
