seeing the light + a new baby!

Well, I finished the first episode of North and South last night, and all I can say is...wait! I have nothing to say!

I need a lot more caffeine to think of an appropriate expression of my intense enjoyment of this series.  I have not yet seen the "fist of doom" (pictured left) as Carrie Lofty calls it, but I am starting to understand: Thornton is a man torn between two worlds. Or maybe not. It's still early in the series--maybe there is something else that makes him look like that.

And I love all the characters...I also even sort of love how Thornton's mother talks.  I will post about it, but I'll probably watch pretty slowly due to time constraints, and also, I don't want to squander these precious moments of discovery by watching all in one go.

Okay, also, look at our new kitty!  We have been kitty-less since Petunia died, which some of you may remember.

It is so great to have her. She is a big fan of the bird feeder - here you see her in a rare moment of distraction from it. She is also fiercely interested in strings being dragged across the floor.

She doesn't have a name yet. Eventually, her name will just become apparent. We actually may be getting a little brother for her soon, too. Isn't she cute?

She's lovely! She looks like of like a tabby/tortie mix. I was the same way, my kitten was nameless for about a week, and then all of a sudden, one day I realized she was "Stella" of course, we almost never call her that. Generally we call her "Danger kitty" or "Beez" short for Stella Bella.

Anyway, they are SO much fun. But rotten too. They make them cute so we won't kill them. ;o)

Enjoy!

Thanks, MK!

LOL. Yes, that IS probably why they make them cute. Oh, I love the name Stella.

Adrien? Charlie?

Butch?

oooooooohhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Zsadist the kitty!

Sookie?

Carolyn Crane said...

OMG, LB. Zsadist? That is so funny. This is a GIRL, remember. Sookie is a sweet name.

Wendy said...

She's adorable!

Zsadist the kitty? LOL.

Kristie (J) said...

Ooooh - she's ADORABLE. I love cats. I have my Zina to keep me company and if I didn't figure she wouldn't be a very happy cat if I were to get more, I'd love to have at least two more of them.

Can't wait to read what you have to say about N & S...eventually.

What a pretty kitty! Stella's a great name.

Zsadie?

Sthella?

A poll would be good. I mean. You wouldn't have to actually name the kitty the name...but it would further distract me from my goalz!!!

Awww cute baby! I like Sookie. I adopted my cats when I was in third and fifth grade respectively, so they have elaborate names: Captain Shadow Ginger Dawn Midnight and Duchess Cayenne Ginger Dawn Midnight. We brought Cayenne to live with us from my parents house last week. It was so lonely without a baby in the house. I miss Shadow terribly. Cats are awesome.

Carolyn Crane said...

Wendy: Thanks!

Kristie: Our old kitty Petunia preferred to be an only child too, but this one I think wants company.

Tracy: N & S is so excellent!

LB: This isn't a painted pony, my friend. Khitty?

Ciara: What sweet names. I bet it will be nice to have Cayenne there.

::hangs head:: I am deeply ashamed of my cat poll idea.

Cheezburger?

5000 words cj..

Oh my review is done except the excerpt. Try writing that 5 times. As G. mournfully rakes alone in the yard..

Carolyn Crane said...

Mournfully!

Why not name your kitty Richard? LOL
Isn't Richard so sexy in his cravat? Yup, I am lusting after that neck of his.

Joanna Chambers said...

Didn't you love the scene in the factory with the cotton?

Your kitty looks egyptian. You should call her Cleo. Or Nefertiti.

Ana said...

What cute cat! I love Sookie as a name but I agree with tumperki, it should be something egyptian: Isis? Hathor? Hatchepsut? Ok, I will stop now.

lisabea said...

Hephestus?

Mwahahahahaha.

Carolyn Crane said...

KB: He is too sexy for his cravat.

T: Are you talking about the stylized beauty sort of shots where she says, I have seen hell and it is white? There are so many great scenes in there!

Ana, Are you and KB sisters now?

LB: The tinkerer!

Lone Chatelaine said...

Pretty girl! She looks like a Tabitha to me :)

Carolyn Crane said...

Now, LC, I could see that!

Joanna Chambers said...

Yup.

Whatever you think of 2 and 3, keep going to 4. It is beautiful.

Have you ordered The Princess Bride?

Wendy said...

How about Iris? She seems like loyalty. :)

Kristie (J) said...

And like Tumperkin says - if you like episode 1 - just WAIT until you get to the end of episode 4!!!

KT Grant said...

The train scene is the most romantic scene in movies ever! But it wasn't in the book!

Carolyn Crane said...

T: Oh, no doubt I'll keep going. Will it be a rocky road?

W: Iris is a lovely name!

Kristie and KB: am I going to cry?

lisabea said...

Higgins will see you through it!!

Carolyn Crane said...

Hold on, is Higgins the father of that girl? And I'm a bit frightened for when that first suitor comes back. Surely he's disgruntled.

Ana said...

CJ, are KB, Thea and I sisters now? Muwahahahahaha.

KT Grant said...

CJ: You may get a little weepy and started yelling at the screen. But overall, you will be a pile of mush. LOL
Ana, Thea and I are the triple threat! MUWAHAHAAAA

Aw such a cute baby!! Congrats oh and you should totally get her brother. I mean I have 2 and I am really happy with the arrangement. It's 2 diffrent personalities and yet they mesh very well together.

Now N&S greatest love series of ALL time. OMG I can't wait to see how you like. But seriously you only saw one I watched the whole 4 eposides in like one sitting I couldn't stop it was like crack. My back hurt for a week b/c of course I watched it on the lap top *smacks forehead*

Katie Reus said...

Omg, she's soooo cute!! You should definitely get her a sibling :)

Kristie (J) said...

CJ - like Katie says - by the end you will be mush - total and complete mush. And if you are like many, you will play the final scene more than once.
And yep - I think you might cry in a couple of places - or at least be a bit weepy. But the payoff is SO worth it. And Higgins continues to grow as a character until you will adore him too.

Christine said...

Awwww! I love the new baby! She's beautiful. I like Tumperkin's Egyptian name suggestions. They suit her look. And a sibling is a wonderful idea!

Shannon said...

What a beautiful girl!!! I would just want to snuggle that white patch under her chin.

My girl, Zoe, is such a lover. She makes me want to get another kitty, but I think my dog would kill me in my sleep if I did. It is probably a good thing I have Homer (the dog) otherwise I would become a scary cat lady.

Shaymless Aymless said...

She adorable. My neighbor's cat wasn't so much nameless as overnamed. Her name changed hourly for awhile. My personal fav was DemonSeed! Now she's simply Kitten, Sweetie, or Cat. LOL

I like the whole Egyptian theme names. Wasn't Catwoman's cat named Isis? I remember her being all black though. I like Nefertiti since it means "beautiful one" or something like that. Then you could name her brother Amun, who was Nefertiti's bro and hubby!

My cat is big enough to be three cats so I really don't need another, besides she might commit a murder/suicide if I got another.

Awesome cat.

Carrie Lofty said...

Sorry, but Fist of Doom was mine *blushes* I have to take credit for something in the Crusade!

And I do hope you grew to enjoy Higgins' character as much as I did. He's wonderful. Do you watch Doctor Who? I have an audio Shakespeare version of The Comedy of Errors where David Tennant (the Doctor) and Brendan Coyle (Higgins) play twin brothers. Amazing stuff. Only in radio could those two get away with that :)

Carolyn Crane said...

Lisabea will be very excited about this Higgins business. Yes, I did enjoy him very much!

Hey, sorry about the fist of doom! I'm going to make a correction! And might I say, that is a very fine name for it, Carrie!

Carrie Lofty said...

Thx, CJ. And here's the link for that Shakespeare set. The woman who plays Thorton's mother, Sinead Cusack, and just about her entire family (the Irish Cusacks, not related to John and Joan here in the States) is also in a few, as well as tons of other movie actors like Joseph Fiennes, Imelda Staunton, Colin Firth's little brother, Ciaran Hinds, Damian Lewis, etc. Good stuff.
