Election chat & Outlander news

I know I have blog buddies out there on both sides of the aisle, and I respect that - I think the U.S. is awesome for its diversity of perspectives, but can I just say, PLEASE LET MY CANDIDATE WIN!!! PLEEEEEASE! Some people think the outcome of this race is obvious, but to me it's a cliffhanger, and I'm filled with a swirling mix of apprehension and hope and dread and every other emotion.

Yesterday a campaign worker for my candidate came to the door and I was like, Nothing will keep me from voting for that man tomorrow - NOTHING!!! I think I sort of scared her. Nearly every house on my block has a sign for my candidate, and I am so filled with pride for it. Go vote people!

Outlander news:

Literary Escapism is the most excellently newsy blog sometimes. I learned there today that Outlander has been optioned for film, and there is already scouting in Scotland happening. I'd heard somewhere else about this being a film (sorry I can't remember where or I'd say!), but not that it was so advanced. And who will play Clare and Jamie? Possibly James McAvoy and Keira Knightley!!

McAvoy will really have to redeem himself for me. He was in WANTED, which got my vote for the most crappy film of the year I can't even believe I saw. But the script was horrible, and I felt the hero was morally a shit, even though the movie didn't position him that way, so maybe McAvoy is actually a brilliant actor who was correctly interpreting the script by fully playing the hero as the worst kind of guy that some people admire but I hate. I know that doesn't make much sense. On the plus side, he looks like Jamie. Yay for redheads!

UPDATE: I heard somewhere else that Gerard Butler was being considered for the role. Better?
UPDATE: Help cast Jamie! See above

Och! Please please please I beg the powers that be... do NOT put Keira Knightly in the Outlander movie, unless she is playing Laoghaire.

You know how sometimes you have an irrational negative reaction to certain actors? Well, every time I see her locked jaw and slight underbite, I go batty.

And I like McAvoy (his best role, of course, was as Mr. Tumnus), but he's too slight.

Is it not delicious? If I squee, will you roll your orange eyes at me?

Hey. I voted wearing my Margaritaville jacket and Key West hat. I looked like a pot, er, parrot head.

Is Keira Knightly old enough to play Clare? Isn't Clare supposed to be in her early 30s?

pidute said...

I LOOOOOOOOOVE McAvoy ,even though he played in Wanted (have you ever seen a movie with so many cliché??? see torture come in any form!!!!).
I have nothing against Keira but i think it's time to find someone else.

Carolyn Crane said...

Jessica: Yes, he is a bit slight, isn't he? LOL about Laoghaire.

LB: This book is SO great! Come squee with me.

Kati: Yes. Good point. NO Keira.

Pidute: Total cliche. Wasn't it terrible?

SQUEEE!! Yay for A!! But beware. This one is a difficult journey, CJ. I think T would LOVE this. She'd squee into her pillow.

I still can't read ANYTHING. I think I'll try Sookie. I still ..uh... haven't...

Carolyn Crane said...

LB: No, difficult? Noooo! Don't even bother with that last Sookie. It is lame lame lame. T recommends Palace of Varieties by James Lear. I really want to read it, and I think you might like it.

Outlander being made into a movie!??!?!
YIPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carolyn Crane said...

I know! What took them so long? Who could resist such a movie?

lbgregg said...

It's going to be 9 hours long.

They should make a movie of DOPK!

Carolyn Crane said...

LBGregg, I think YOU'RE nine hours long.

And I agree, Pirate King rocks.

Saucy wench.

I've also heard recommended Richard Armitage, but I'm not familiar with him.

Yay for voting! I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but if you go to Starbucks, they're giving away free coffees to peeps who have their 'I voted' sticker...too bad I mailed in an absentee ballot (maybe they'll take my word)

Tracy said...

Oh Death of a Pirate King is just the best! You are gonna love it CJ! Loved that book.

Outlander a movie? That is soooo very cool! I loved McAvoy as Mr Tumnus and I liked him in Penelope as well but haven't seen him in antyhing else. He kind of seems too little for how I picture Jamie.

I definitely can't picture Keira Knightly as Clare.

McAvoy is cute but HE IS NOT JAMIE.

Kevin McKidd? He's totally not my type but he's a big butch ginger and that's Jamie.

Then again, probably too old now and not pretty enough. He should be a leeeetle pretty. And MacAvoy, he is pretty.

I must read these Adrien English books. Squeeing into pillows sounds good to me. And James Lear? He is for to die. But filthy! Squalid and sordid and utterly disreputable.... Have I persuaded you yet?

Richard as Jamie?!?!
Be still my beating heart!!

well, glad to hear you voted...I did too...for the first time ever!
also glad to hear you are in 'reader heaven' ...lol...I like that expression.
Death of a Pirate King sounds great. Stop making me want to add to my TBR mountain :)

I LOVED James McAvoy in the Brit series Shameless. Since Jamie is a little younger than Claire, and at the beginning of Outlander he's in his early 20s, I think Gerard Butler would be too old and "manly".
James McAvoy has a youthful quality, and I think he'd be great.
I like Kiera Knightly, but don't think she'd do as Claire.
I may just have to check out Adrien English while I'm waiting for The Englor Affair!

Carolyn Crane said...

Jackie: Oh, try him, you'll like him.

Katie R: I don't think they were doing it here.

Tracy: I'm just LOVING it.

Tump: LOL. I was persuaded long ago. Lear is SO in my next haul. As for Adrien, I recommend starting with #3, HELL. That's where I started.

KB: You're funny. Don't you think he's a bit slight as well? And a bit too old. Jamie is a yout.

Naida: You like sort of literary fare; I think this would really float your boat. Again, I recommend starting at #3, HELL you say. Not that 1 & 2 are bad, because they aren't, but HELL and this one make a great pair.

Renee: Good point! Jamie is younger indeed. The jamie has to be PERFECT. Also, see comment above re: Adrien.

KT Grant said...

You have a point there CJ.Wasn't Jamie only about 18 when he and Claire met?
I am thinking we need a cutey in his early 20's.
But my oh my, Richard in a kilt!

Carolyn Crane said...

Richard Armitage in a kilt to KatiBabs: I shant be gentle with ye, lassie.

KT Grant said...

If I am a bad lassie, will I get a spank om my bottom?

Carolyn Crane said...

Richard in a kilt to KB: Have you been a verra bad lassie then? Because you might get more than a spank.

KT Grant said...

KB bends over
*NC-17 scene added here*

Carolyn Crane said...

OMG! Fade to black. Some fumbling around. Nothing to see here folks!

KT Grant said...

Cut to 3 hours later...

KB has a grin on her face and nothing more.

Carolyn Crane said...

No wait, Richard only wanted to hand you a glass of tea.

Carolyn Crane said...

Sigh. Maybe we need to start a "Draft Richard Armitage for Jamie" campaign in spite of his drawbacks.

KT Grant said...

The only drawback is he is just too sexy for his own good.

Carolyn Crane said...

I don't see Richard playing the virgin.

KT Grant said...

he is such a good actor that he could pretend.
oh boy visuals of Richard all virginal. mmmmmm....

Carolyn Crane said...

And I sure as HELL don't see Richard playing the virgin and Kiera Knightly schools him.

KT Grant said...

I always thought Kate Winslet would play a good Claire. Kiera no way.

Carolyn Crane said...

Oh, gasp. Perfect. I love her. I loved her in what was it? Beautiful creatures?

KT Grant said...

Beautiful Creatures is one of my all time favorite movies. Kate's first movie.

Carolyn Crane said...

Such a great movie. One of my faves, too.

lisabea said...

I love tumperkin like a blog girl loves m/m pron.

Carolyn Crane said...

So hilarious. And yeah, she persuaded me!

Sarai said...

Wow lots of comments Death of a Pirate King is mine and yet I haven't read it *ducks* WTF is wrong with me... oh yeah real life is happening and I don't have a minute to myself.

raych said...

I would like to continue this embargo on Kiera. Claire is a STRONG woman, which, to my mind, means 100+ lbs.

Also, whoever plays Jamie had better be le sexy. There is no literary character I'd rather do.

Ladytink_534 said...

Ooh I'm intrigued! Love pirates. Gerard Butler could of course play Jaime but the first book he's really young so I think McAvoy would make a better choice.

Carolyn Crane said...

Raych: Right on. Jamie is ALL that.

Tink:McAvoy does look the part, though some feel he's slight.
