The Marky Mark - Judd connection

I just started Caressed by Ice by Nalini Singh.

I'm really enjoying it so far! I read the first book in this series, Slave to Sensation, but not #2, Visions of Heat. I usually don't read out of order and it's a weird experience. You feel a bit like you're not in the club. But it's nothing compared to if I hadn't read Slave. Then I'd be like, WTF? Because you need that Psy world set up.

I'm amazed at how well Singh imagines the Psy world. It's so intricate, complex, and strangely logical; the way she talks about it and its effects and projects and factions, you'd swear it already exists and she's just reporting on it. It just has that much heft.

Anyway, does anybody else think Judd on the cover looks like Mark Wahlberg? Even down to the hairstyle. I think it every time I look at it.

Oh, KB, you so clever!!

ok, WHY are you reading Caressed by Ice before Visions of Heat??? You are planning on going back and reading it, yes?

I never made the connection between Judd and Mark but now that you post the pictures I can totally see it. As much as I like Judd it makes him even more appealing! lol

Is it a mistake? I plan to read Visions, but I don't have it, and I do have Caressed (thanks to Any!) Should I back up?

I've got the first three books sitting in TBR for umpteen months now. I need to set aside the time to read them in sequence. ;-) And yes, there is most certainly that Marky Mark resemblance. :-)

Jace, I think you are the only other one in the universe who hasn't read them.

I don't think you have to read VoH before CbI, but I might be the wrong person to ask b/c I never read in order. ;)

Having said that, I have VoH if you'd like to borrow it. Don't I need to mail you something else anyway?? Or am I just on crack?

Also, you're right about the Marky Mark resemblance, though I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out. I'm currently OBSESSED with Entourage, so I'm loving Mark Wahlberg. *sigh*

CJ - I say yes, you need to read VoH before Caressed by Ice, but I'll almost always err on the side of reading in order. Judd definitely has a role in VoH, so it's worth reading that first, although it probably has little to no impact on Caressed by Ice. But still, backstory, you know?

Did you enjoy Slave to Sensation? Lucas Hunter is one of my favorite heroes EVAR!

Holly: You're not slated to mail me anything - you may be thinking about our SHOMI experience. I didn't realize you were an out of order reader. Maybe I'll order it. I've been meaning to order some new releases this week of some fave authors. But thanks for the offer!

MK: Lucas was great. And, I guess if Judd is loaded up with backstory, it might make this novel more pleasurable.

I'm totally an out of order reader. It's rare that I even check to see if a novel is part of a series before starting it. I've been burned a few times b/c of this, but most of the time I find it doesn't matter.

That is so funny. I usually go in order. Reading out of order, Is it possible that you still get the story, but you don't know if it would be enhanced by order reading? Oh, maybe I'll try and do a test!

I have found that to be the case a time or two. Most recently I read Jill Shalvis' Harlequin Blaze releases Flashpoint and Flashback. I read them out of order (not even realizing there WAS an order) and wow did I hate Flashback. I'm not even kidding, I HATED it. I wrote this super snarky review going on and on about how AWFUL it was and blah blah blah.

Then I felt guilty for it because I absolute adore Jill Shalvis as a person. I mean, I ADORE her. So I decided to hold off on posting my review until I read Flashpoint, b/c I thought maybe it would help me to understand the motivations of the characters in Flashback.

I didn't expect much going in, but I tried to keep an open mind. In the end? I loved Flashpoint and Flashback made WAY more sense. I was totally moded. haha

I ended up giving Flashpoint an A and Flashback a B. Which is a HUGE improvement over what I was originally going to give it, trust me. ;0)

Funny! Going backwards changed things? I made a point to read Kresely Cole's immortals in order, but that totally wasn't necessary, I don't think.

KT Grant said...

Judd and wood furniture do not mix well while he is horny.

That is all.

Holly said...

Oops, sorry. Should have clarified. I read out of order to begin with: Flashback is the 2nd book and Flashpoint is the first. The motivations of the characters made no sense whatsoever in Flashback until I read Flashpoint.

Carolyn Crane said...

KB: are you being silly? You are!

Holly - no, I got it. Going back clarified things, I should've said, right? Hey, look, it's almost like we're twittering. Maybe. No?

KT Grant said...

CJ, where are you up to with Judd? Then you will see my silliness is fact.
I am being silly today because I have the major Monday blues. :(

Holly said...

Ok, I'm a dork then. Gotcha. haha

Well..it's sort of like we're twittering. Except we can say more here. ;0) Sometimes the 140 character limit really cramps my style.

Holly said...

I'm an even bigger dork than I first realized, b/c I see I DID clarify that Flashback was the 2nd book in my first comment.

*headesk*

Carolyn Crane said...

KB: Oh, so sorry to hear! I am intrigued by the wood furniture comment then. But I might go back and start VISIONS now. I'm on page 71. Maybe he breaks things out of anger. Or freezes them, and they just crack. Or turn them into ice statues like Mr. Penguin.

Holly: You are so funny. You are not a dork! I know it is morning in CA. And a Monday. *G* My weekend was such a nonevent.

p.s. I luv Mark Wahlberg

well now that you pointed it out I will have to try hard not to think about it LOL!!!
Crap I have this in ebook format so that makes it hard for me to read at night. I really need an ereader!

oooo, Judd is my favorite Singh hero and I could totally have him with a MW packaging. hee.

Judd does look like Mark. I'll have to look into this series, as I'm another in the universe who hasn't read this series.

Christine said...

I could never read a series out of order. Never. Unless I was under threat of death or ban from the bookstore or something.

I think you should read VoH first. Something happens at the end that sets up Brenna's situation, doesn't it? I mean... I guess you don't *have* to. I'm just detail oriented and like to have everything fit together perfectly. And in order. :P

Judd is hotter than Wahlberg and the cover dude combined. And he can come .. um... do a job on my pine dining room table any day. Or night. Heh.

And all the NetMind, DarkMind, Ghost stuff builds chronologically in each book.

Tracy said...

CJ - I don't think you have to read the books in order but since I'm usually anal about reading things in order I say do it! lol Since you're reading them out of order *shudders* I would definitely go back and read Visions of Heat next.

It does kind of look like Wahlberg a little!
